Early generation selection strategy for yield and yield components in white oat Scientia Agricola
Benin,Giovani; Carvalho,Fernando Irajá Félix de; Oliveira,Antônio Costa de; Lorencetti,Claudir; Valério,Igor Pires; Schmidt,Douglas André Mallmann; Hartwig,Irineu; Ribeiro,Guilherme; Vieira,Eduardo Alano; Silva,José Antonio Gonzales da.
Several studies have searched for higher efficiency on plant selection in generations bearing high frequency of heterozygotes. This work aims to compare the response of direct selection for grain yield, indirect selection through average grain weight and combined selection for higher yield potential and average grain weight of oat plants (Avena sativa L.), using the honeycomb breeding method. These strategies were applied in the growing seasons of 2001 and 2002 in F3 and F4 populations, respectively, in the crosses UPF 18 CTC 5, OR 2 ´ UPF 7 and OR 2 ´ UPF 18. The ten best genetic combinations obtained for each cross and selection strategy were evaluated in greenhouse yield trials....

Seleção recorrente no melhoramento genético de plantas autógamas. Infoteca-e
CARGNIN, A..
ABSTRACT: The recurrent selection is a dynamic and continuous process, which involves the obtainment of individuals or families, evaluation, selection and intercrossing of the best ones, aiming to increase the frequence oft he favourable alleles and, consequently, improve the expression of the character selction. The recurrent selection may be carried out in two manners concerning the selection method: selection in individual level also denoted as phenotypic selection or massal selection; and selection in family level, in which populations structured in families are used. The estimatives of the genetic improvements attained by breeding with recurrent selection are a useful tool to quantify the efficiency of the executed works. Differences among the...

Using genealogy to improve selection efficiency of pedigree method Scientia Agricola
Nunes,José Airton Rodrigues; Moreto,Alexsander Luís; Ramalho,Magno Antonio Patto.
In the pedigree method of conducting an autogamous population of segregating plants, the genealogy of the progenies is registered. Although labor-intensive, these data are rarely used. One possibility of exploiting this information is to improve selection efficiency using BLUP (Best Linear Unbiased Prediction). In this study BLUP with genealogy inclusion was compared to the mean in the progenies evaluation conducted by the pedigree method. Progenies of crosses of the common bean lines BRS MG Talismã and BRS Valente in F4:6 and F4:7 were used. The 256 F4:6 progenies were sown in February 2005, in southeast of Brazil, in a 16 ´ 16 simple lattice design. The grain yield data were subjected to BLUP analysis with inclusion...
